SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (March 15, 2011) -- As the first steel plate was cut today marking the official start of construction of Princess Cruises' next ship, the line unveiled the vessel's profile, released preliminary details about some of its features, and revealed its name -- Royal Princess.

I wouldn't say it's as sleek and elegant as they'd like you to believe, but it looks like there will be a few nice features on board.

I just wonder if the bigger size is going to thrill the average Princess long-timer. The smaller ships are leaving the fleet one by one and are being replaced by 140,000+ ships.

    How very exciting!

It's wonderful to see the new Royal Princess. From what I've seen see looks like she'll be a very innovative ship! Can't wait to learn more about her in the coming months!

A very nice fresh new design for Princess, but couldn't they have thought of another name for this ship?
These pictures are also on their FB page.

I agree with you there, Ken!

They could have atleast shown some effort, in thinking of a new name for a brand new ship like this. I am already wondering if the sister ship will be named Regal Princess.

Frankly, I like the reverse rake of the stern of the Crown and Grand class -- it makes the stern cabin balconies very private. The forward rake of the Royal class has no more privacy than the Royal Caribbean ships.

Your right! I guess it must have been an actually artist's rendering of the vessel. I think the photo was taken in Princess Cruises' HQ Office.

Just looking at them compared, you can easily see they're the same!

I am thinking more in terms of America Princess, Northern Princess, Cunard Princess.....
