Princess Cruises to Return to Port of Galveston for 2012-13 Caribbean Season

Crown Princess to Sail on Western Caribbean Itineraries from Texas

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (March 3, 2011) -- For the first time since 2007, a Princess Cruises ship will again set sail from the port of Galveston, offering cruises to the sunny Western Caribbean.

Crown Princess will offer 19 departures from Galveston between December 22, 2012 and April 27, 2013. The seven-day roundtrip Western Caribbean itinerary features ports of call at Costa Maya, Mexico; Roatan, Honduras; Belize City, Belize; and Cozumel, Mexico.

"We've received a great deal of feedback from cruisers interested in sailing from Galveston again," said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president. "So we're excited to be returning in 2012 to bring our Western Caribbean sailings back to Texas."

The 3,070-passenger Crown Princess offers greater capacity than Princess ships previously based in Galveston. The 113,000-ton vessel debuted in 2006 and offers the line's popular signature features, including a piazza-style atrium with International Café and Vines wine bar; the 300-square-foot Movies Under the Stars poolside theater; The Sanctuary, an adults-only "oasis of tranquility"; and a variety of dining, recreation and entertainment options.

"Welcoming back Princess Cruises and hosting Crown Princess is a great addition to the Texas cruise market. We're excited that the return of Princess Cruises will offer our passengers additional options of cruise vacations sailing from Texas' premiere cruise port," said Steven M. Cernak, Galveston port director. The remainder of the Princess Cruises Caribbean schedule will be announced later this month.

I just saw this, and I will be getting to know more about Princess! I am so happy that there will be another alternative for Galveston.

Any word on what the itineraries will be?

Mindy, 7 night Western Caribbean itinerary: Costa Maya, Roatan, Belize City and Cozumel. There will be 19 departures between Dec 22, 2012 and April 27, 2013.
You are getting a very nice ship too. The Crown Princess is the ship I took my first Princess cruise on in 2006. She currently has Ft Lauderdale as her home every Saturday, until Dec 22, when it becomes Galveston.

MC I saw this and immediately thought about some of your recent comments.

We have sailed the Crown Princess. Other than the size (really big) we had no complaints whatsoever and really enjoyed the cruise.
The aft pool area is wonderful, and we spend a great deal of time there.

DH and I are not thrilled with the itinerary, but it is so good to have another company bringing people to this area. Between Hurricane Ike and the cancellation of the Constellation program, this part of Texas could sure use a morale boost.

Oh, boy, do I get that.
We are so glad to have a couple of newer ships at POrt Canaveral, they keep laying people off at the cape, and it's the biggest game in town (in the county actually) as far as employment is concerned.

    I wouldn't be either, Mindy.
