Question Shore Excursions offered by Princess

Are you pleased with the shore excursions offered by Princess ... the variety, etc.? How well are the departures for the excursions organized? Have you found the Shore Excursion Staff well informed and helpful?

Other comments would also be appreciated.

Over all, we've been quite pleased with the MANY shore excursion we've booked through Princess.

Princess seems to make an effort to offer enough different types to excursions so everyone can find something he would like.

Their Shore Excursion Staff is sometimes more willing to try to help than they are well informed.

Princess does a good job and gives good information on getting folks off the ship and to their excursions.

For the most part, we've been happy when we've booked through Princess. Most ports we just do our own thing, but after I've done research.

for our first Hawaiian cruise, we booked three excursions and were pretty happy. Because we booked this one just weeks before our cruise, I figured most of the good excursions were booked already so I didn't look. Plus, my hubby said he wasn't interested in doing any excursions.

then my daughter suggested we go back to Sea Life Park in Honolulu. Hubby wasn't interested. She suggested the Zoo. Hubby vetoed that one too, saying there are zoos here in California. They came to blows (just kidding, but there were words exchanged) as the girl felt she wouldn't
"be able do what" she wanted to do. So I got out brochures I've ordered for each port and asked her to look through and place post its on each possibility. We actually went to a few of them (a couple of places weren't open on the day we were in that port).

Then a few days before the cruise, hubby was asking if there's some excursions available. Roll eyes.

On board there was a screen that showed the various excursions for each port with the highlighted ones not available. There were plenty still available.

Best to reserve many now and cancel the ones we don't want when we board, or just take our chances when we get on the ship?

Normally, I go ahead and book the ones we know we want at home on line. Some of the most popular ones do "Sell Out".

I think so. For Princess shore excursions, you won't be charged for one you've pre-booked until you're onboard. (I think either the day the bookings are closed for that port or for the day of the excursion) On the first day of the cruise, you'll get the tickets for those you've booked. You can cancel an excursion simply by dropping the envelope with those tickets in a box by the shore excursions box before the deadline (which could be anywhere from 24 to 72 hours before arrival in that port).

Today, I was checking the Shore Excursions booked for Princess on our upcoming cruise.

In St. Kittis (a month away) the "Catamaran Sail to Nevis" is now on Wait List. Very happy we booked it early and are Confirmed!

Question Ship excursions vs. self-guided tours

I think choosing excursions would be pretty difficult considering the short amount of time for actually seeing the port of call. I walk slow and have an untreatable hearing loss, so doing a ship excursion is questionable for me. At the same time, I worry I might miss the ship if I see a port on my own. So how high ship excursions are rated will be very important for me when I am ready to book a cruise.
