    Smoking Guidelines for Princess Cruises

    Princess Cruises

Where You Can Smoke: Smoking is permitted in cabins, including balconies, on the open decks and in designated areas in most public rooms.

Where You Can't: Smoking is prohibited in show lounges, elevators, dining rooms and all food service areas.

Cigar and Pipe Smoking: Cigar and pipe smoking is permitted only on the open decks.

    From Princess FAQs:
Smoking is not allowed in the dining rooms, any food service area, or in the show lounges and theaters. Smoking is permitted in staterooms, stateroom balconies, and designated areas. As a courtesy to your fellow passengers, please refrain from smoking pipes and cigars in all public rooms.

    6/15/11 UPDATE

Keeping the comfort of our passengers a priority, and in consideration of consumer studies which show smokers are a small minority of passengers, Princess has implemented the following smoking policy:

    Designated Smoking Areas
Clearly marked “Designated Smoking Areas” are available onboard and include a sufficient number of ashtrays that are emptied regularly. Generally, these areas include cigar lounges, a section of the nightclub and casino, as well as a portion of the open decks. As a safety precaution, passengers are reminded to properly dispose of cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco, which are never to be thrown overboard as this may be sucked back into the ship and cause fires.

    Stateroom Smoking Policy Update
For all voyages departing after January 15th, 2012, Princess Cruises will prohibit smoking in passenger staterooms and balconies. This policy change reflects the preferences of a vast majority of our passengers who value having their primary living space (both stateroom and balcony) smoke-free.

As balconies are a hallmark of Princess Cruises, we believe it is important to keep this peaceful space clear of smoke. Violations to this policy will result in a $250 fine for each occurrence, which will be charged to the passenger’s stateroom account.

Keeping with the global trend toward more restrictive smoking policies and honoring the wishes of our passengers, we feel this change will enhance our onboard experience and do more to help our passengers escape completely.

    Most public rooms -- NO!

There are very very very FEW public rooms where smoking is allowed.

The space allowed for smoking on the open deck is very limited.

I might add that at Princess Cays all of the outdoor picnic tables they allow smoking. If you're looking for a smoke free area to eat you lunch, your only hope is to take your food back to your chair & hope someone near by doesn't light up.

There is no more smoking allowed on one side of the aft terrace. It was not allowed on the Ruby in October and hanna just reported there is none on the Grand either. We were moved to the lido area mid ship.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

I just found that out in Oct. on the Emerald. It was a joke that they let people (especially cigar smokers) smoke on the terrace anyway. The air currents blew the smell all around the pool are no matter where I sat. We abandoned that pool for the Lotus pool where things definitely smell much better. Mid ship pools are to hectic with pool games, music or noisy with MUTS.

I am curious if they stopped it because of the eating venue, buffets on both sides. It could be a test that may change back if the bar loses a great deal of business.

They might but I doubt it since they don't usually go back to increase the smoking areas once changed. We were on the Grand in Feb at the Adagio's bar & took our drinks out onto the patio & people at all the tables were smoking. We'll be back in Dec & see if it's changed.

Kool please let me know On the ruby one of the officers pointed up but not in a specific area. Maybe it was there. At that time workers were up there changing lamps and carpet and it was blocked off.

By the way where on the Cape are you?? We are off Chiquita.

Great information, Rich! Thanks! We'll be checking out Adagio's Bar (deck area outside) for sure on Grand in February. There are so very very few places where smoking is any longer allowed ....

I'm not sure if all the ships are changing but I suppose they are since most things are similar on Princess. We haven't been on the Ruby in over a year. Maybe this spring before spring break we'll go Ruby again. Nice ship.
We're off Chiquita on El Dorado about 1 block east of Cape Harbor.
