Princess signs agreement with Fincantieri for two 3600 passenger ships
Carnival Cruise Corporation has signed a memorandum of agreement with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri for the construction of two 3,600-passenger cruise ships for its Princess Cruises brand. The agreement is subject to execution of a definitive contract, financing and other customary closing conditions.
The new ships – which will have an all-in cost of approximately €155,000 per lower berth – are scheduled to enter service in spring 2013 and spring 2014. At 139,000 tons each, the as-yet-unnamed ships will be the largest in the Princess Cruises fleet.
Additional details will be announced at a later date.
Is my memory failing me, or did we have a thread a few months ago about the Carnival brands not building any larger than they already are? Does that sound familiar?

It sure does, Char...I guess Mickey and CCL got a good deal.
I found out the news about these two new ships this morning when I got an e-mail from a friend. I just found it here on CruiseLineFans.
Really interesting to hear about these new ships. I'm very excited to see what these ships look like and what they have to offer their guests. I'd like to see more resturants and different entertainment venues too!
I wonder how large the ships will be in length... over 1000 feet / 303 metres? An additional deck of cabins? Maybe not because of the passenger capacity being just 3,600, not much more than Ruby Princess ect...
I think Char is right.... Mickey did say they'd never build a ship larger than Queen Mary 2, Carnival Corp's biggest ship. Carnival Dream is the second biggest, these new ships will be bigger than her. Maybe he changed his mind.
Does this mean we might see the construction of Carnival Pinnacle?
IMO, I hope that space goes to a much larger theater. It'll be nice not having to cut dinner short just to get a seat in the Princess theater.
Also, alloting more space to a traditional dining room. I have a hard time with the Personal Choice Dining concept if passengers can't get their choice of dining. Considering there's usually a waitlist for t.d., why not allot more space to t.d.?
Curtis, I don't think the water slide works with Princess. It's a whole different crowd.

I do hope one of those new ships will be sent over for Pacific cruises (Alaska, Hawaii, Asia). The "newer" ships have been hanging around the Caribbean and Europe areas.
