Would the Ruby Princess be a good choice for a transatlantic cruise in April 2009? How is the service and food on the Princess?

I think it would be. Service and food on Princess is excellent. Wide array and very good presentation of food in the buffet and dining rooms. Also on the pool deck by the hamburger and hot dog area. Room service is also very good, based on my experiences on the Crown Princess, her sister.

    cabins on Crown princess

I have just returned from a cruise to Norway, I had a mini suite with an open balcony which is very good as you have the sun all the time when on your ships side, never go for the top deck with balcony as the deck overhand stops all the sun coming in and makes the balcony dark, people are concerned that that some balconys are open but people sit on open decks without being spied on.So enjoy

Thanks for the info I'm sure hoping our VS cabin (aft) has an overhang. But if it doesn't, so be it. It's a cruise!

    And welcome aboard too

Welcome -- DH and I both have medications that prevent us from being in the sun for long periods of time -- so that ship isn't for us -- we want our verandah completely covered.

    Thanks.

    Welcome to CLF

That cabin sounds just right for a Norway cruise where you spend a lot of time looking up at the mountains

    balconies

People keep making a big deal about lack of privacy on Dolphin deck but that is not why I will look for a covered balcony. So what if people look down on me? I want to know that nobody on a higher deck will spill liquid or throw trash onto my balcony. Also, I am guessing (but not able to prove) cigarette smoke can drop from Caribe deck and a roof would at least limit the amount that gets in your nose.

If I could choose any cabin I wanted on the Ruby, it would be E721 because its balcony has a roof and it is near the aft elevators on the starboard side. If my plan was to travel alone I would get a balcony cabin that is not a minisuite to get the midship location, but I don't want to share those tiny rooms with another adult.
