    Silent Disembarkation Roll Out

The following is part of an e-mail of updates I received from Princess Cruises concerning the Roll out of the Silent Disembarkation Process.

The traditional "hurry up and wait" disembarkation process that has long been a cruise industry tradition is now history aboard Princess ships, as we introduce a new, streamlined farewell process for passengers. Contrasted with the typical end-of-cruise departure where passengers listen to public address system announcements for their luggage tag color to be called signaling the staggered times they will disembark, we debuted an efficient, more relaxed process for passengers leaving the ship.
Passengers are each given an assigned time and place to assemble on the final morning and are personally escorted to the gangway by a member of the ship's staff, eliminating the guesswork as to the actual time passengers will be disembarking.

That certainly will free up the congestion IF they can make it work as planned. Some folks will still try to be the first off the ship and move into the stairway areas. This will take some effort on Princess' part to make sure those eager folks go where they were told!

This has been in effect for a while and passengers love it, if you are not where they tell you to be you will not hear your color.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Sue, they are not calling colors, as I understand it, you get a letter in your stateroom the night before disembarkation, informing passengers where to assemble, and at what time. Then, on disembarkation morning, a crew member escorts the group from the assembly location to the gangway and bid you goodbye and safe journey home.
This has been in trial already, but colors will no longer be called.

Now that they're not calling colors at all, wonder how things are working out on Princess ships?

KK (Krazy Kruizers) was on a HAL ship recently and mentioned in her "Trip Report" that the Silent Disembarkation was a total zoo!

Disembarkation on CB was a breeze! We were told to go to the Island Dining room at a particular time and wait for our number to be called. We sat there for about 20 minutes while the group before us went and then they called us. The bad part disembarkation was the fact we were leaving

On another note... embarkation was the fastest I had ever gotten onboard a ship. Literally under 20 minutes from the time we got in what seemed to be the longest line on earth to the moment we stepped aboard.

The line outside the terminal was a false sense of waiting. It was long because they were screening poeple, just like in the airport, except less hassel without having to remove your shoes etc. Once inside, we shown towards a big room with Kiosks with each deck name on it. We walked up to the Caribe Deck kiosk, gave the perosn our name and in no time they had our Sail Cards and we signed for our on board charges. A 2 second walk to the escaltor taking us up to the ship, a quick traditional pre boarding photo and onto the gangway. As we entered the ship we put our card into the machine looked into the camera to take our picture and we were done!

In less than 20 minutes we went from standing online to sitting on our balcony! Kudos to Princess.
