Judge denies request; casino ship company to proceed with auction
Efforts to quickly sell the vessels once used by the now bankrupt SunCruz Casinos and get them out of Port Canaveral before the start of hurricane season have been spurned by a federal judge in Orlando.
U.S. Magistrate Judge David Baker last week denied a request by the ship's mortgage holder to allow for what's known as an "interlocutory sale" of the four SunCruz gambling ships now docked at Port Canaveral as opposed to a court-ordered auction.
SunCruz filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy last December and the mortgage holder of the company's ships, New York-based Fortress Investment Group, placed the U.S. flagged vessels at Port Canaveral until their ultimate fate is decided.

No auction date has been set, and in the meantime, the court and attorneys will continue to sort through creditors to determine who gets what when the ships are finally auctioned . . .
