Royal Caribbean reports that over 100,000 pounds of supplies for Haiti sailed with the Freedom of the Seas on Sunday.
It will be off-loaded in Labadee on tuesday.

Every little bit helps! I am very glad that Royal Caribbean is making these ports stops more than just fun and games. They are really being a huge help in this tragic situation.

Yep. I am excited that our stuff gets there tomorrow!
I hope that they wil do a repeat when the Freedom sails the westeern itinerary again in two weeks.

I still have two huge plastic bottles of cooking oil and a pound of pasta noodles that wouldn't fit in the last box.... will need more things to go with if they do it again, which I suspect they will.

Here is what the news said about it:
Freedom Of The Seas Packed With Supplies For Haiti - Central Florida News 13#

My favorite quote from the article is:
"The cruise line said 100 percent of the proceeds spent by guests at the resort will go toward Haiti relief funds. If a guest buys a cocktail, pays for a ride or uses a jet ski, it all goes to help.
Royal Caribbean said it’s a way for guests to enjoy themselves on vacation and still feel like they are helping."

    That's really nice!

No word yet from the Port Authority on whether they will collect items for the next time the Freedom of the Seas is Haaiti-bound or not.

    Keeping tabs.

You will be happy to know what Lion Brand Yarn told knitters and crocheters this week:

"Each month, The Weekly Stitch features a charity organization using knitting & crochet to help those in need. However, in light of the current situation in Haiti, we want to turn our attention to this part of the world and how you can help out. We have received many inquiries about donating knitted or crocheted items to Haiti, but the most immediate concerns are basic needs, such as food, shelter, and health care.

Therefore, in lieu of sending handmade items, we encourage you to make monetary donations to established charity and relief organizations already on-site in Haiti to help address these needs. Click here to see a list of a few of these organizations. "

FYI: Haiti has a warm climate, and does not normally need sweaters, quilts or scarves. The earthquake did not change that.

Well, Port Canaveral says they have no plans for another collection for the next W Carib sailing of the Freedom.

    So much for that.

Haiti is going to need help for a long time! Maybe they will do it again later. Or maybe RCI doesn't have room on the next Freedom sailing.
