Talking More GOOD News for Port Canaveral!!!

Excerpts from an article in Florida Today:

Two new massive Disney cruise ships will call Port Canaveral home starting in 2011 after the company and port authority reached an agreement that also calls for $22 million in new terminal and parking construction.

The new ships and the contract that guarantees a Disney presence at the port for the next 15 years . . .

. . . Each of the new ships, as yet unnamed, will be able to accommodate 4,000 guests. Each is expected to have 1,250 staterooms . . .

The new terminal that Disney will build here is supposed to be completed year after next. Cost: $22,000,000.00

It will include a parking garage, too - with a covered overhead walkway into the terminal.

The very last paragraph of the above-referenced article is particularly interesting for our local economy:
"The trend in the cruise industry is to put the bigger ships at the strongest ports in the country," said Payne, the chief negotiator of the deal. "For Disney to put both of its newest ships here is a big statement."

I sure LIKE the sound of THAT!!!
