A Press Release from the Port Canaveral Port Authority:
PORT CANAVERAL NAMED TOP FLORIDA PORT
PORT CANAVERAL, FL — October 18, 2007 – For the sixth consecutive year, readers of Florida Monthly magazine and Floridamagazine.com website have voted Port Canaveral as Florida's top port in its annual Best of Florida poll. More than 600,000 votes were cast in 114 categories with Port Canaveral rising to the top in its category. Canaveral was described as 'Florida's premiere deepwater port for cruise lines, cargo lines and shippers.'
"It is very gratifying to be recognized as the best at what you do," said Tom Goodson, Chairman of the Canaveral Port Authority Board of Commissioners. "To earn the distinction six consecutive times is a testament to the dedication of our staff in providing excellent customer service with every interaction, whether visitors come to Port Canaveral for business or pleasure."
Port Canaveral is the second busiest cruise port in the world and an increasingly important port for cargo. More recreational opportunities are available to the public at Port Canaveral than all of Florida’s other 13 deepwater ports combined. In central Florida, Port Canaveral has a $1.1 billion economic impact. The Port Authority stopped collecting taxes in 1986 and has operated from the revenue it generates from its operations and leases.
"We appreciate the vote of approval from the public," said Stan Payne, CEO, Port Canaveral. "It is our goal to continue to deliver the exceptional service and experience for which Port Canaveral has become known."
