New Mobile Operations Center and Segways
Pub. Oct 18, 2007
Port Commissioners and the community turned out for the introduction of the new Mobile Operations Center and Segways at Port Canaveral. The Mobile Operations Center is a converted 1981 passenger bus that was stripped down and refitted with a conference area, self-contained generator, emergency lighting, an internal Motorola communications system, two communication work stations, radio charging and battery storage area, and a canopied area outside the vehicle for additional work space. The bus can accommodate 17 people and has an operational power self-sufficiency of approximately 96 hours. It took three months to complete for a total cost, including the vehicle, of under $40,000.
In addition to the Mobile Operationis Center, the Port has added new Segways. They are being used to assist Public Safety in its daily operations and during special events. Port Canaveral is among the first seaports in the nation to use Segways and to have its own mobile operations vehicle
"The Mobile Operations Center and Segways are valuable resources for addressing the needs of Port Canaveral's daily operations and special events, such as community festivals, fishing tournaments, or weather-related emergencies," says J. Stanley 'Stan' Payne, CEO, Port Canaveral
