    What About 2009?

RCL has announced that the Mariner of the Seas will leave Port Canaveral after December, 2008.

What's in the workd for Port Canaveral after that?

    Nothing's been announced.
No plans have been revealed for a larger RCL or X ship sailing to be brought here to replace the Mariner.
And, schedules show only the Sovereign of the Seas at the Space Coast Port for dates in 2009.

What do you think will happen?

What's the 'word on the street?" (Or should I say 'on the waves?")

Does anyone have any actual linformation on this?

I think we will have to wait till Royal Caribbean decides to make an announcement! There are various rumors floating around...none credible.

I can't imagine them leaving PC with only the Sovereign on a long term basis, can you?
Still, I would have thought they would have announced SOMETHING by now. The early 2009 inineraries are pretty much already out, aren't they?

They will put another ship there, I'm sure! And yes, the '09 itineraries are out till I think April. Hopefully it won't be too long before we know!

    I would like that, too!

I would ALSO like it if they just put an old klunker barge here with the crown & anchor or X on it, if it would just call at Roatan at least once a month!

    From the local newspaper

Cruise ship to leave port in 2009

    BY SCOTT BLAKE
    FLORIDA TODAY

Port Canaveral officials are hoping to land a replacement for Royal Caribbean's Mariner of the Seas, which the company plans to relocate to Los Angeles in February 2009, leaving Brevard County's seaport without its largest cruise ship.

So far, Royal Caribbean has not committed to replacing Mariner, which sails on seven-day Caribbean voyages, with another ship at Port Canaveral. However, Royal Caribbean's smaller and older Sovereign of the Seas will remain at the port.

The Mariner, which has a maximum capacity of about 3,800 passengers, debuted at Port Canaveral in late 2003. From Los Angeles, the ship will sail on seven-day cruises to the Mexican Riviera.

Royal Caribbean spokesman Lyan Sierra-Caro on Tuesday said the Miami-based company is not moving the ship from Port Canaveral because of weakness in the Caribbean cruise market, but because it is "an opportunity to offer guests (on the West Coast) a new ship."
