If you are driving to Port Canaveral for a cruise this weekend, you might want to be aware of two things. One may affect hotel availability/pricing, and both may affect traffic:

1) Fires in the Nofth part of the county.
2) The scheduled laynch of the Space Shuttle


FIRES:

Brevard County Fire-Rescue fought 12 brush fires in North Brevard Wednesday night, all near Aurantia Road and County Road 5A....

By 9 p.m., firefighters had contained all the fires... However, officials warned commuters that heavy smoke may be visible in the area, especially in the early morning hours

Since these were lightening sparked fires, and more thunderstorms are expected, these conditions could persidt into the weekend to affect your cruise commute.

KSC technicians remain on target to get shuttle Atlantis ready for launch Sunday.
Launch time is (as of now) 4:30 PM on Sunday. This means traffic will be unusually heavy beginning several hours before that. Plan on allowing extra time if you are coming in for a Sunday Embarkation.
