Thumbs up Calica? Fantastic!

Just got back from a 4 day cruise on Carnival Fascination. The itinerary said we were going to CALICA! Where is that? Well, it's kinda like Playa del Carmen area near Cozumel, near Tulum, etc.

Calica is a beautiful rock pit. Nothing there but close to so much depending on what you want to do. Everything is available.

I found a great secret for this area. We found a private company called Edventure Tours our of Tulum ahead of time and arranged a private tour based on other tourist's recommendations. I'm so glad we did! It was the best time we ever had at port. (Jungle adeventures, Snorkeling, cenotes, tropical)

Most experienced cruisers know that cruiseline shore tours are such a ripoff! Large groups of people herded like cattle with nothing special or extra for the price. Yeah, I know "...but they are safe, and they will get you back on time." Well, find a reputable company like Edventure Tours and you will discover that they are better because they are so personalized.

Bonnie from Edventure Tours gave us a private tour for much less. We went wherever we wanted to go and did what WE wanted to do---Tulum ruins (magnificant!), snorkeled in a cenote (must do lifetime experience!), played with monkeys (they arent stinky & dirty), and shopped, shopped, shopped everwhere at our own pace. Bonnie provided the transporation in her nice 4wd, paid entrance fees, and provided beer, soda, & bottled water. She is an ex-pat from North Dakota and is so nice.

Bottom line, if you get dumped in Calica or Playa del Carmen, make sure to check out Edventure Tours. Ask for Bonnie, Ed, or Danny.

This former fishing village on the Yucatan Peninsula has grown into one of Mexico's most popular Caribbean vacation destinations, where beautiful white-sand beaches fringe turquoise waters. The resort also is known for its lively nightlife. Many cruise passengers opt for a shore excursion to ancient Mayan ruins or to Xcaret nature park, where you can swim in the underground rivers of this 250-acre preserve. Ships bound for Cancun typically call at Calica, the nearest port.
