Guys, I am glad to see so many like to do research on a place before going there and want to learn more about a place when you are there. I find it fascinating that so many people just want the superficial and don't want to delve into the geology, history, architecture, and even philosophies of the places they visit!

Neal, I have to agree whole heartily with you, I have come to the conclusion that many of the people that have the feeling you described have either forgotten how to learn or were never taught how to learn.

This becomes more and more apparent to me by the lack of quaility posts on sites, Most tend to worry more about the towels in the stateroom more than the fact that they will be visiting some unique location.

Just so funny to me

And I regret that so many places are losing their individuality and charm in favor of the mass "McDonaldization" of the world.

I used to even love US Malls until everything became the same all over. No more regional chains, no more specialty shops. All the same.........

How's this for the ultimate McDonaldization? Lenin must be rolling in his grave! The spelling is interesting, though...

OK, you must not have read my trip report! Not one single mention of towel animals! Of course, I did the required descriptions of the ship, cabin, and the restaurants..but as soon as that was out of the way 99% of the guts of the review was all about the feeling of the places as well as its history, and the personalities and character of the people we met.

Nothing is as important to me as diving head first into the culture and getting the real feel of the place...and I tried to reflect that in the review.

Check it out at:
http://www.cruiselineforums.com/foru...n-trip-36.html

For example, here's a lady we met in the Sirence Village in Turkey. She cooked a traditional lunch for us when we visited her in her ancient home. Lots more about that in the review...

I can definitely second Julie's comments about her cruises. she always has such interesting comments about where she goes and what she does. Julie, did you see the person asking questions about the Pacific? I sent them to your thread.

Keep up the good work!

Companies now are very international........you just have to look past those Burger Kings and know where to go.........for example Old Mazatlan is just wonderful and off the beaten path...........
