Partial or Full Transit?

I know what the basic differences are between Partial and Full transit... here are some questions I have though

1) How long of a cruise is a typical full transit vs how many days on a partial transit? How many sea days on both?

2) On a full transit what are the main ports of calls?

3) Do all full transits usually start/end at MIA/FLL and San Diego? Are there other embarkation and disembarkation cities?

4) Are full transits only offered 2x a year, around late April/early May, and then again in Sepember October as cruise ships transition to/from Alaska and the Caribbean?

5) Is a full transit worth it, or is a partial transit more worth it? Do partial transits occur year long or are those limited as well?

Thanks for your advice!

Alisa we have only done a partial..........but we have BOOKED a full transit on the Radiance in October of 06........it is a repositioning cruise and it is 15 days from LA to Ft. Lauderdale...........

It is less money than what we paid for a 10 day partial........and the jr. suites sold out in 3 weeks, a full 15 months prior to sailing.

So all I'm saying is if you can get the time off..........we found this repo 15 day on the Radiance less than a 10 day parial on the Brilliance.........we think it is well worth the money.........but we loved that cruise.

You asked about ports of call

ours is

LA
at sea
Cabo
Acapulco
Huatulco
at sea
Puntarenas, Costa Rica
as Sea
Panaman Canal
Cristobal Pier
at sea
Aruba
at sea
at sea
Ft. Lauderdale.

A good mix of sea days and ports.

hmmm I feel that that is a lot of sea days. I would prefer that my trip is more ports than sea days, especially if you count the panama canal as a sea day...

when you went partial, what were the ports?

so does that mean you booked yoru 10/06 cruise in 07/05? i will have to start doing research if i want to cruise in 07. i still haven't decided between PC and Baltic. tough decision. depends on pricing and timing more than anything.

you said yours is 15 days right.... does that mean its over 2 weekends? as of next year i'll only have 12 vacation days a year... so i need to make sure it works with my vacation schedule as well...

i also wish the cruise was more caribbean ports than Mex Riv ports which i basically dont have intersting in..

hm decisions decisions...

what do you have planned or what are you thinking of for Costa Rica? tour of a rainforest or ...

It was released the first week of June and the jr suites were sold out by June 24th...........June of 06 for October of 07 sailing.

We like the sea days so that was no problem for us..........but we really liked no more than 2 sea days before getting to a port so we like them both.

On our 10 day..........(now this is 3 cruises ago.......I may have info I can find and check for sure)........Miami, Aruba, Panama Canal, Puerto Limon, Costa Rica, Grand Cayman............still had 4 sea days, 5 if you count Panama Canal.

hmm... once again more decisions.

I guess first I'm going to have to decide between PC and Baltic then I need to figure out full or partial.

I'm interested in Costa Rica... I'll start a new thread devoted to Costa Rica

Costa Rica was our least favorite port on the whole trip...........an awful lot of razor wire, guns and crime...........but Bombero swears by it and it is one of his favorite places to go.

Ducky...I'm doing a partial transit in Jan. It's round trip from Galveston and stops in Limon, Gr. Cayman, Cozumel etc. Five sea days though out of a 12 day cruise. Since this will be my 1st relaxing vacation in a couple of years I think I'll enjoy it. We plan to do a full transit on the ferry as an excursion so I guess we'll have the best of both worlds!

Alisa, we did the same itinerary as Jim did. Loved every moment of it. I also prefer more stops than not.

Judy, you'll have to come back and tell us how it is when you get back!
