Well, Char, we had a wonderful time on Island Princess. I can't say enough about the ship's crew. They all work so hard to make sure their guests feel at home and well cared for.
The transit through the canal was a wonderful day. The only rain we had was an hour long shower early in the morning as we approach the first lock at Gatun followed by mostly cloudy and around 80 degrees. Very pleasant weather.
The lock transit was fascinating and the quiet cruise through Gatun Lake was so peaceful. Loved the whole day.
I highly recommend the cruise and also recommend cruisers study up on the history of the building of the canal. As the day progressed I thought often of the workers who dug the canal and how many lost their lives in the process.

It is amazing, isn't it?! Glad you had a good transit day. Sometimes it so hot and humid!
If you get a chance do write a report for us. You can never have too many reviews and cruise reports..there is always someone looking for something new about their upcoming sailing.

We bought a National Geographics DVD on the Canal.
Alas, it didn't explain where the water (to operate the locks) came from.
I was surprised to discover (via google) that it's just rain !!
At 50+ millions gallons required for a ship to cross the Canal, that's a lot of rain, eh?
