Cool panama canal shots

hello everyone..I have what might seem to be a stupid question..we are going to the panama canal 3-24-09 on the island princess and wondering if we have to get shots?? we just heard from my dd who is going in jan for the full cruise la to fl that she had to get 3/4 shots.
we are doing the partial cruise fl/fl and I have never heard about this.. so that is my question...

I am not aware that anyone on a Panama Canal cruise needs to get any shots. Usually shots are required when going to the interior of some countries.

What shots have you been told about? Have things changed?

We are leaving Nov. 29th from Acapulco through the Panama Canal with stops in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Jamaica. The only thing my doctor recommended was that I finish up with hepatitis A and B series that I had started but not finished.

Your question is certainly not stupid. it makes good sense to have your shots. We have a very mobile society. Just think of the numerous people you encounter on ships and planes.

anyone who will be traveling should have their flu shot yearly, pneumonia shot at least every five years, tet, dip, and hep series.

Be sure to carry you list of vaccinations with you.

Quite helpful! Also, you've done this lots times so you really do know from personal experiences!

While, KK knows more about this than I do .... She will be the first to tell you to check with your doctor to see if you can have these shots, etc.

There are some folks on certain medications or with certain conditions who can not take them.

You are correct. You need it with you. It's called an International Certificate of Vaccination, issued by the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services. I keep mine with my passport.
