How It*Works

On the Transit page, it shows how ship would progress thru the canal from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
On the Operations page, it shows how one of the individual locks works!

I can watch those 2 pages ALL DAY LONG.

On the Dimensions, it gives a pictorial view of the dimensions of the locks. There is also a button to get the Maximum Dimensions allowed for a Ship. This is also known as PanaMax. These numbers are becoming very important for the cruise industry, which is building bigger and bigger ships.
That is a great sight. I never realized how it actually worked.

Terri

Would and aft balcony be a good cabin choice/veranda choice for the Panama Canal cruise?

I think so!

We had a stbd balcony, and I loved watching the sides of the canal move toward or away from us while we were in the locks. From the aft, you can see the doors of the lock open and close, and that would be cool.

Some ships have the forward end of the ship open during the crossing, so that's another option. And of course, you can always go up on top and run all over to get whatever the best view is at the time.
