new panama canal

Oct 23 - Thanks to the voters of Panama yesterday, in a few years, cruise lines will be able to move even their largest vessels between the Caribbean and the US West Coast relatively quickly instead of spending months sending it around South America or around the world. In the final step in the approval process, Panamanian voters approved a project that will expand the Panama Canal to handle any ship currently in service or on the drawing boards

That will be some big locks!
I expect that it will take a number of years to complete.
The locks are one thing, they may need to widen the canal as well.
