Copenhagen - Second to none!

Lifestyle magazines world-wide are in complete agreement: Copenhagen is the modern capital of Scandinavia. And the city's innovative restaurants and buzzing cafe life have played an important role in the city's rise to prominence.

A city with a one thousand year rich history and with a contemporary exciting buzz – this is Copenhagen. It started of as a small merchant harbour, which is what Copenhagen means, because of the vast flow of herrings in the Copenhagen waters.

It has since then grown into a fantastic capital city in terms of size, quality and standard of living. It is just the perfect short break destination where there is time for exploring and relaxing at the same time – most many sights and attractions are within walking distance.

City breathing spaces
The people of Copenhagen like to spend their lunch-hour in the open, joining young sun-worshippers in the nearby parks. Near Rosenborg Castle in The King's Garden, for example, a favourite place for new mums to stroll with their prams along the narrow paths. Theatre for adults and children alike is enjoyed with a picnic hamper and blanket brought from home, while young things, midriffs bared to the sun, play Frisbee on the grass.

Romantic
Copenhagen is also a very romantic city and it is easy to see why once you get here.
You may have heard of Tivoli Gardens, the most visited attraction in Denmark, it is not only situated in the heart of Copenhagen it also hits you in the heart when strolling around this beautiful area. The most romantic times of year to visit is during summer time or in December when Copenhagen gets ready for Christmas it is truly very beautiful and magical in December

Food
On the city squares and along the charming canals the cafés and restaurants are blooming. The city districts of Nřrrebro, Vesterbro and Řsterbro encircle the inner city, and spark off the very latest trends.

Copenhagen has everything from exclusive Michelin-starred restaurants, to the newest and hottest design “hang outs” and of course not to forget the wonderful atmospheric and cosy cafés in the side streets and along the waterfronts.

Summer and winter magic
In summer the old amusement park, the Tivoli Gardens provides a magical setting for romantic nights out. A hundred and ten thousand coloured lamps light up the gardens' fountains and flowers while world-famous acts perform at the open-air stage. From the end of November until Christmas, the Tivoli Gardens are transformed as the whole of Copenhagen goes skating on the frozen lake in the middle of the gardens. Skaters also have a high old time at the entrance to Frederiksberg Park or on Kongens Nytorv, the City's grandest square, looking on to the Royal Theatre and the captivating Nyhavn waterfront, with its cafés and old sailing ships along the quay.

Shopaholics' Paradise!
Shopping in Copenhagen is excellent. Danish fashion designers have started to make a name for themselves on the international stage. Today, the Danish design wave has washed over the city with independent dressmakers in fashionable areas of the city like Vesterbro and Nřrrebro as well as the big design companies that export Danish design all over the world.

Dine with the Danes
It is now possible to visit a Danish family in their home and join them for dinner. This is a fantastic way to get “under the skin” of a different culture and get to understand the local people and their country. Though we love the Little Mermaid and Tivoli Gardens there is more the Denmark and the Danes than manor sights and attractions.
