The San Juan's are great. In my youth me and 3 other guys spent a week going from island to island on a 28ft boat. It was a great trip. It was a couple years later that I stepped up to ships.

I seem to remember getting a brochure from one of my alum associations for a river cruise that travels on the Snake and/or Columbia Rivers. I looked at it just to see what it was about, but tossed it in the recycling bin eventually (probably the time of year or price isn't compatible with us). The next time I get one of them, I'll try to remember to post the info here. I think one of the recent ones was following the path of Lewis and Clark (they started their trip in Missouri so maybe that's the connection) for the 200th anniversary of their exploration.

Lewis and Clark did come down the Snake and Columbia rivers.
Majestic Cruise Line and Cruise West both do those. They can be a bit expensive and they do not have all the amenities of a bigger cruise ship.
