Trabi trip - a new Warnemunde experience
Passengers on-board P&O Cruises' Oriana calling at Warnemunde today have an opportunity to take a tour in a Trabant - the once forlorn vehicles from Eastern Europe and the pride of East Germany's automobile industry, which is currently enjoying a nostalgic revival.
The 'Trip in a Trabi Tour' offered by German ground handler and tours' operator European Land Services(E-L-S GmbH), enables guests to go for a drive, talk to the vehicle owners and have a look under the bonnet. Included in the tour is a visit to the famous Grand Kempinski Hotel in Heiligendamm for high tea.
The establishment was once voted as the most beautiful hotel in the world next to the Grand Hyatt in Tokyo and Le Grand Hotel International in Paris says Ian Els, director of E-L-S. 'Members of Europe's nobility once visited this 'Baltic Gem' as a summer holiday base. Past guests include Queen Louise of Prussia and the Tsar's family and Lord Nelson.'
P&O Cruises has added the Trabi tour to its Warnemunde stops this summer which numbers six calls, reports Els. Next week Aurora will stopover followed by three calls by Artemis and one by Arcadia through to September. 'Our aim is to provide passengers returning to Warnemunde new and exciting tours whilst promoting the Mecklenburg area,' Els added.
