From Copenhagen Airpor to pier?

I am considering taking a cruise that leaves out of Copenhagen next year.

My question is, how far is it from the airport to the pier? Are they relatively close, or is it a rather long trip?

Any idea how much it shuold cost to get from one to the other?

If I do this, I would definitely do pre-cruise in Copenhagen for a day or two, but then when the cruise is over, I would go from ship to airport. Does anyone have any experience about what time the earliest flight would be that I could book out of Copenhagen after getting of the ship?

Any advice would be most appreciated!

Our Baltic trip was with HAL, and our plane landed in Copenhagen...which is also where we boarded the ship.

Problem is, I can't answer your question. We got off the plane and got right on a bus. We then did a day-trip tour of Copenhagen since it was way too early to go board the ship. I don't really know how far it is from the airport to the ship since we drove and drove for hours. We did get to see Copenhagen, though, and it's very pretty. I don't know if there's enough there to justify spending two days sightseeing...maybe. But I think just getting there a day early to get over the jetlag is a good idea!

But in general, the pier is not too far from the airport in your estimation?

My other cruise option is out of Southampton, but I understand that that is quite a drive from London.

When you took the day tour of Copenhagen... so it was arranged by HAL that they picked you up from the airport early morning, gave you the day tour and then took you to the ship?

How do I get from Copenhagen Airport to Langelinie Pier?
There are three convenient ways to get from the airport to Langelinie Pier.
  • Shuttle: Shuttle services are usually available from the airport to Langelinie Pier. Contact your cruise line directly for information.
  • Taxi: A taxi from the airport to Langelinie will take approximately 25 minutes and cost about DKK 200-250 (about $35-40) depending on traffic.
  • Public transportation: From the airport arrival hall, DSB (Danish State Railways) trains leave every 20 minutes. It will take 12 minutes to reach Central Station. From there you can take a taxi to the pier. Or stay on the train another 3 minutes to reach østerport Station. From outside østerport Station, bus number 26 to Langelinie Pier departs every 20 minutes. The bus ride to Langelinie from the station is approximately 5 minutes. The total trip will cost about DKK 23 (about $4).

My other cruise option is out of Southampton, but I understand that that is quite a drive from London.

Yes, it was arranged by HAL. But we were with a big group, so it was all our group on the bus. If I had the choice, I would want to spend a pre-cruise stay in London rather than Copenhagen...but again, just my opinion. I've been to London many times and it's a really fun place to visit.

There is good public transportation in England, and a great train system. Have you considered a train to Southampton? I never did that...but it's a thought. OR if you did a prestay through the cruiseline I am sure they would arrange the transfer to the pier from the hotel.

Julie:

Thanks so much for the info.

I will have to wait until full 2007 summer cruise schedules come out before I make my decision.

It will either be RCI out of Southampton or HAL out of Copenhagen.

I've been to London before and didn't really like it all that much. I'm more inclined to want to see Copenhagen. But I like RCI better than HAL. Decisions decisions.

I definitely would arrange air and hotel on my own though. Not through the cruise line. I'll have to see if I can just purchase transfers without the rest of it.

We'll see what happens. I'm trying to do research on Southampton and Copenhagen

You didn't like London? What did you do when you were there? I wonder if you missed the good stuff.

Did you go to Westminster Abbey and see all the burial crypts with carvings of famous people? Or Westminster Abbey...a beautiful towering cathedral? Or the tower of London...the dungeon and the royal jewels...or Buckingham Palace...or the Royal Mews where you can see all the royal carriages from throughout history? Did you go to the British Museum...where they have all the Egyptian stuff and the most of the friezes from the Parthenon (Greece is not happy about that) ? Did you see London's Chinatown (different from SF, that's for sure...but great food and funky restaurants!) or ride on The London Eye? You can see so much from way up there...I rode it at sundown and saw Big Ben and the London skyline from the top with an orange sky as a backdrop...just beautiful. I also went to the theater a few times in London...I saw Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty's Theatre and it was like stepping back in time...very cool...and a fantastic performance! There is also Picadilly Circus with the street performers and outdoor shopping...all sorts of trinkets and souveniers...just a fun place to look around. I have been to London about six times and it's always a lot of fun.

Its just like I've been to London, we went to Westminster Abby, Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, the Tower of London, Big Ben, London Bridge, Picadilly Circus, etc.

I'd just like to go somewhere new. London doesnt have the appeal to me that it has with others.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.
