Sounds like a good spot to take the netbook and ereader. The chairs on the Spirit were not all that comfortable.

Unfortunately on the Oosterdam, Westerdam and Zuiderdam the Crow's Nest is used for Trivia, sometimes Bingo, dance classes -- not a quiet place like on the Noordam. And the starboard side is taken up with the Exploration's Cafe, Internet Cafe and Library which at times is not quiet.

When we go to San Diego we stay at the Embassy Suites right on Pacific Highway. We always ask for a room on the top floor so that we can watch the ships come in.

It is within walking distance of Seaport Village -- lots of shops and restaurants. Also within walking distance is Midway and The Fish Market (restaurant) is right next to it.

Also within walking distance is Horton's Plaza -- a shopping Mall and Ralph's store where you can pick up anything you forgot, wine, alcohol.

One time we took the bus and went to the zoo.

Years ago at the end of a cruise we stayed at the Hampton Inn -- we were not impressed with it. Hope it has changed.

Oops this isn't good news. We have pretty much decided on Hampton Inn. It's cheaper and includes breakfast. I'll take a look at both today.

Our DD and her husband are planning on coming down from Costa Mesa to go to the zoo with us. We planned an extra day for that.

That was years ago that we stayed there -- like I said -- they may have improved since then.

We like the Embassy Suites because they also have the free full breakfast and the manager's cocktail party every evening from 5:30 - 7:30 PM.
