Hello everyone. I just booked for the week of Thanksgiving. Laffnvegas...........I have been reading some of your posts, they're great! I will be traveling with my 16 yr. old daughter and my husband. He never wants to use his real name on these things so we will just call him "Sky". hahahaha. Has anyone else booked for Thanksgiving yet? Oosterdam 11-17-07 Wendy
Welcome Wendy!!
No doubt you will love the Oosterdam as much as we do.
Not able to cruise during Thanksgiving this year, but I know you will enjoy yourself!
Hi Wendy, Sorry I won't be on that week either but we will be about 3 weeks later on December 15th. You daughter should have lots of company there was about 425 kids on board last Thankggiving on the Oosterdam and I know quite a few were between the ages of 14 and 17. I will say that you will have a wonderful Thanksgiving week on a beautiful ship with a great crew
Welcome to CLF, if you have any questions feel free to ask

Hello everyone. Laffnvegas...do you live in Las Vegas? So do we. Localady.........where do you live? I am so glad to hear that there will be kids on board. Sorry to hear that you will not be sailing with us laffnvegas. We try to sail when the going is good as well, Unfortunately, I do think that my daughter will be missing too much school and we have to suck it up and pay more. Within the last few months we have sailed on RCL Visions and Carnival Spirit...twice. Just making up for lost time! Last night I met the parent of one of my daughter's new friends. She use to have a travel agent bus. and she told me that the music that was played by the pool was like "elevator music" will this be true? She did say that the cruise was fabulous. Worst comes to worse..she can bring her own music. Has anyone used their internet cafe (or is there one?) On our last cruise we took our laptop and was very dissapointed with the serive. I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wendy
Wendy-
Actually I am glad to tell you that they have more of a Jimmy Buffett, lite rock thing going on in the back pool !! All I know is that Jimmy Buffett came on, and this Cal Gal had an urge for a margarita!!
I have teens and bit the big bullet on price to take our boys for Christmas last year. It is really expensive to cruise during the holidays.

Wendy, yes we live in Las Vegas. Actually the Green Valley area. Like Sher just told you on the Oosterdam we found the music was definitely much younger and not elevator music. I will agree that when we were on the Zaandam this past year over Thanksgiving that yes the music was much softer elevator music. The Vista Class ships which the Oosterdam is the 2nd of the 4 draws a much younger crowd there for the music reflucts it's passengers.

hello..........again! Glad to hear about the music.........it sounds perfect. Last year we did go to Margarritaville and saw Jimmy Buffet. I had fun but my daughter and her friend did leave early Laffnvegas...........we live in the NW area not far from the Sante Fe. Still waiting for a catalog from the cruise company. I still have failed in getting a picture of the pool......and for that matter, other areas of the ship. Does anyone know how to start the "count down" clock for the cruise. I think that I am the only one who did not figure it out. Wendy
Wendy, here is a link to pictures and information on the Oosterdam. While the pictures were taken in her inaugural year they still do apply. ms Oosterdam Holland America Line by Steve J
For you count down clock here on CLF go to User CP at the top of this page (next to where it says Forum Home) then go to Edit Options under control panel. At the bottom of that page you can do up your count down clock

hello everyone. How are you localady? You have 2 teen boys? Having 1 teen girl is sucking the life out of me. You are right about holiday cruises being sooooooo expensive. It seems that Thanksgiving is high, however Christmas is even higher and forget about the summer months. Last year we tried to go before the holidays and that was a real bargain. Hi Laffnvegas. You will laugh at this one. You know how Nevada Day always falls on Halloween and the kids get an extra day of school off? I booked it for that week and last year they did not get the extra day off . In Mexico around Halloween the have a holiday "Day of the Dead" in which they honor the dead and is a very nice celebration.......so even if my daughter missed more school (bad mother) hahaha, she had the experience of a mexican holiday. Thank you so very much for the link with all of those pictures! As soon as I find out what time we sail I will attempt to set the time clock...thank you for the directions, as well. Has anyone noticed that I openned the thread on HAL ships instead of "roll call" Do you think that I should open a thread for that date there........or leave it alone? Wendy
Hello everyone. I hope that someone reads this because I need some advice. We have been on many cruises........this is the first time that this has happened to me. I went to do the online check in. At that time I noticed that they are requiring to have $60.00 per day per person. We are a family of three which will bring the total to $1,260.00. This is above the fact that we would have paid in full for our cruise about 75 days prior to sailing. They want to take that amount off of your credit card (or debit) and will only charge you for the items you bought at the end of the cruise. BUT it seems that I need to have that amount on my debit card to open my account on the ship. If we don't do that............they are requesting that amount in cash at the time of check in. That is an enormous amount and will certainly cut down on my funds to do shopping while we are in port. AND that will force everyone to do their shopping on board. This just does not sound right to me..........Please I need some feedback..............Wendy
