    Read Any Good Books Lately?

Fairly new to this forum, and I can't find any listings about good cruise books (maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?). I'm not talking about travel guides, but just good cruise reading.

I just bought SHIP FOR BRAINS by Brian David Bruns. This is his 2nd cruise book, first was CRUISE CONFIDENTIAL, a humorous look at an American working on cruise ships.

I'm trying to hold off reading it until my next cruise (January), but I'm not sure I can wait that long.

    So, what's everybody else reading?

Roger, I've been wanting to read SHIP FOR BRAINS too ... but have only been able to find it for a Nook or Kindle.

Is yours a "real" book? If so, please tell me where you bought it.

His first book was very entertaining!

It a "Print-on-Demand" book, apparently not carried by bookstores, but available through them. I ordered it at a small local book store (pre-paid) and had it within a week. Barnes & Noble (among others) should be able to order it, its just it seems like a pay-first only option.

PS: the hard part is I'm trying to save it until my January cruise, but its sitting in my office and looking more tempting everyday!

Thanks, I'll see if my local book store can order it for me!

Roger, there's a poll on CLF that includes some reading suggestions which my be of interest to you:

Roger, have you read Permanent Passenger: My Life on a Cruise Ship by Micha Berman?

He tells of his time as an Asst. Cruise Director back in the 1990's in a rather humorous way. Not as good as the Bruns book ... but it was a fun read.

I just bought a book on E-Bay called CRUISE SOS: THE LIFE OF A SHIPBOARD DOCTOR. I think its an English book but it sounded interesting.

Permanent Passenger sounds good. I'll also probably bring a new book called SHIP HAPPENS - LIMERICKS & JOKES ABOUT CRUISING. Its a short book, and pricey, also like Bruns' books, available by order only, but worth a few laughs.

I tend to lean towards lighter and humorous materials for cruise reading, so PP sounds perfect.

Not a book about cruising, but I just finished a novel called "Dreams of Joy," by Lisa See. The sequel to her "Shanghai Girls." Really makes one appreciate our country (past the first chapter or two, all of the action takes place in late 1950s Communist China).
