Okay, here's your chance to give someone the 'sign'. You know, the sign Bill Engvall gives out - the one that people are required to wear around their neck that says, "I'm an idiot!" This way all of us will know beforehand and we can avoid them.
I'm aware that 'Here's Your Sign' is the title for his debut album and is an umbrella term for a recurring setup of Engvall's, in which he describes people who ask questions to which the answers should be obvious, and in the process, Engvall shows these people to be stupid. With the tag, "Here's Your Sign", Engvall then metaphorically gives these people a sign declaring their stupidity as a warning to others interacting with this person.
While he proclaims them to be stupid, and perhaps it would be politically correct for the sign to say, "I'm stupid", I am taking poetic license to change it for those who are simply idiots. While some may say the words are interchangeable, to me, the term 'stupid' depicts someone who is lacking in education and doesn't know any better. The term 'idiot' more implies that someone should know better but has made a conscientious decision not to care or chooses to irritate others on purpose.
My first sign goes to the lady I encountered on one of our cruises. We were in a cabin close to the elevator. It was early in the morning and we were just starting to get up when I hear this lady in the hallway yell real loud, "Come on Ethel, the elevator's here!" I opened the door dressed only in my underwear and yelled at her, "Hey, lady! Shut the f**k up - you're not the only one on the ship!" I then slammed my door and wished I could have forced her to wear the sign for the rest of the cruise. Some people have no respect for others.
My goal in life is to print a bunch of these signs and then physically hand them to people I meet who have truly earned them.
Okay, now it's your turn. Who do you want to give a sign to and what did they do to earn it?
Figured we all need a good laugh.
Pete
