I think that I killed my roll call

Hi there, I am just writing to vent! Someone on my roll call (on another board) asked if anyone had made a 'meet and greet' for our cruise and I replied 'No, but I would like to meet peole if anyone is interested,' and then *poof* everyone stopped posting! (it had previously been an active roll call thread).

Anyway, I think that I killed it! So what, if nobody is interested in getting together, no big deal! It's like they are allergic to meet and greets!

Anyway, I miss chatting with people about the cruise, I am thinking about pretending to go on a different cruise date just so I can have people to chat with about the cruise on the roll call

    Ok, rant done

How soon is your cruise? Sometimes a roll call can just get inactive for a while if the cruise is still far off. I just wouldn't take it personally.

Just on a tangent, right after we booked our last cruise, I did read the roll call over on another board, just to get an idea of those onboard. One of the planners was really aggressive IMO. Asking for personal info, etc, as soon as someone posted that they'd booked the cruise. I did meet her and we did a lot of trivia together (and had dinner with her family one night). But I just wonder how many people she put off with her "friendliness."

I don't even bother with roll calls anymore on the other site

the last couple i joined in -- people were only interested in talking about their scupa diving and snorkling tours -- a couple people asked about a meet and greet but no one wanted to get together

Yes, I think that I would be put off by someone asking for personal information right away on a cruise board. I didn't mention anything like that though, I simply said exactly what I posted, like 3 lines and left it at that. The cruise is less than a month away

My roll call was nice, people chatting about various things, restaurants, cameras, weddings. I really enjoyed the chatter. If nobody wants to get together, it isn't any big deal at all, I just thought it would be nice to meet some people.

the first couple of roll calls i joined over there were nice -- and we had some really nice meet and greets on the ship

the last meet and greet i went to was on the noordam in 2009 -- 72 of us showed up

then i read the roll calls and joined in a couple more of them - but like i said -- the chatter led to nowhere

now i don't even bother to go and read them

Seldom do I attend a M&G from DS. I do go the roll calls ... mainly just to see what they're saying.

Robin, maybe you could just immediately change the subject and post about something or other that's been of interest to them in the past ....

    LuLu ...

Great idea! Today I made a post about pre-cruise shopping, hoping to change the subject

Though I really wouldn't mind knowing some people precruise to perhaps have a cocktail or to just discuss the cruise/excursions.

I think those are good ideas. Post about restaurants, etc. Ask if anyone has heard about a specific shore excursion. I just wouldn't start up with "anyone here" or "what happened to everyone?"
