So, my little P&S Christmas Present was exactly what I wanted. It had a little zoom to reach further than a standard 3 x or 4 x and took decent photos. I was able to use it on the zipline in Haiti and carry it around the ship or in port in my pocket. I did have trouble seeing the LCD while on the beaches and no viewfinder stinks... Tradeoff.

I still brought and used the dSLR but sadly not as much. Used it to take those landscape shots as we were pulling in or out of port.

Been a crazy week with starting school again and all, but will try to post a few out of camera photos of that little guy... Wonder if I need to install Canon's software to play with the GPS stuff? I had the setting on... I guess during spring break I will learn way too much going on now.

A bit off topic, got my G/F a Livescribe pen - that thing is cool and almost a must for a college student that needs to reference lectures often, like her with Nursing.

Good luck with the classes, and yes, we need some photos. Now you see why I insist on a viewfinder.

I agree about the view finder, but zoom is most important, and I used every bit of that 14x. So, here is just one shot from camera only resized it to 800 x 600 so you will not have to scroll on your monitors LOL.

It is from top of the zipline in Haiti.

What do you think of the little camera? I will post more soon... wanted to get one out real quick.

Impressive shot but I wish the ship were a bit more in focus. You are right, though, the zoom is impressive.

Yeah that would have been a nice idea - I just set the camera to landscape and hit the button... I was after all strapped down LOL.

See if I can dig up some normal shots with a focused on subject.

    Hi Dan!

Hey, I loved the shot! How fast was the trip down? Did you encounter that piglet yelling "weeeeeeeeeee" on the way down? That zip line would have given me quite an adrenaline rush as I am really scared of heights, but hell, I would have done it too!

I hope you will post more shots of your cruise and the photos taken with your "point & shoot"!!!!!

Will do, just too lazy to resize and no real photo editing program on the office machine. Not sure I want something as heavy as Photoshop - but I like photoshop's flexibility. Wonder if the newer version of MS Photo thingy resizes multiple at once?

Nope, no weeeee lol - I did take video also but sadly the beginning got a bit messed up. The ride feels like a few minutes, but I bet it is less than 60 seconds. You do not feel like you are going that fast, and feel safe right after leaving the tower (I assume standing on the towers edge would have killed you?). They have you do a small version first "mini dragon" before heading up to the "big dragon" yeah, real original LOL. The ride TO the big dragon was a scarier than the ride down the line "laughing:. You have to leave the resort and drive up a mountain road - love an adventure. Post a shot of the "security" booth outside of the Labadee Entrance later on.

    Hi Dan,

Been in foreign countries where driving on mountain roads was very scary! I remember my father driving from Kabul to Peshawar, Pakistan. We had to go over the Khyber Pass! It was a two lane, gravel road with NO guardrails and a sheer drop for what seemed to me to be thousands of feet, straight down.

In 1947/1948 a British armored column was ambushed and wiped out by some of the Afghan tribes that inhabit those mountains. They may seem backwards and unorganized to us here in the states, but never doubt their love for fighting! One day a tribe will be allied with your cause and the next week they may be your enemy!

Ecuador also has some pretty hairy mountain roads too. A 45 minute plane trip from Guayaquil to Quito was a breeze. Driving? Took me almost 8 hours going on mountain roads with lots of turns and steep grades, but it was paved! I had such a tension headache after driving through periods of rain and fog on those Andes mountains! There were guard rails but some of them had breaks in them which indicated that someone didn't negotiate the curve and are somewhere hundreds of feet down below. Scary.....
