Patty, hope your daughter is doing better! Is she still bothered with that cough as well?
Unfortunately, when she's awake, she gets coughing fits. It could be like a few years ago when her doctor said that it gets to be a reflex, and not still congestion. I'm having her smear Vaporub on her chest every so often so if she's congested, that would help. When I told hubby she woke up with a sore throat, he was saying I should get her tested for strep throat (he thought the doctor should have done that last week), but I pointed out she hasn't had a fever, which could be a sign of an infection. It's probably just the post nasal drip from her allergy that's causing the soreness. I said that every time she's been out of the house the last month or so, her hay fever's gotten worse (the Halloween night t'n'ting, going to the park to get the H1N1 shot -- because her doctor didn't have the vaccine yet).
So in the meantime, we're using the vaporizer a lot and giving her OTC meds. I'm also having her suck on DumDum pops (got a bag to pass out for Halloween but let her keep flavors she liked).
I'm kinda feeling it too, so maybe something's bloomin' right now.
The girl was having another coughing attack this morning so I decided to take her to the urgent care center. We got there when it opened (at 8am), but there was already a waiting room full of people. I guess when the receptionist got there, there were people in line waiting so she just let them in (or else the door from the lab area for the medical center was open). She had masks for anyone who needed it -- immediately handed one to me forthe girl. Someone else came up and was taking out a mask from another container, but she told him that's for vomiting.
We were waiting, waiting. Would go up to the front desk (which the receptionist kept wiping down) to look at the clipboard and there were several people ahead of my girl. At least most of them were adults so I was thinking once the pediatrician on call was free, my girl can go in. Another receptionist sat down and looked in front of her where we were sitting and called me up to take my co-payment immediately. So I guess she was triaging the group and felt for my daughter.
A very short time later, a nurse called us in and took her vitals. Another short wait in the waiting room until an examining room opened up. Then finally we placed in a room to wait for the doctor. When she came in, she went to work, checking her out and then setting up a nebulizer treatment. Then she returned and tested the girl's breathing and breath strength. Another nebulizer treatment. She felt the results were a bit better and decided the girl didn't need an immediate steroid shot, but can get a prescription for the pills.
Returned home where hubby was still home. Since he wasn't leaving for a while, I said I'll just go pick up her prescription (and a few other things, including some items for a science project that is due tomorrow, a model of a plant or animal cell to be made from all-edible items).
