    Prestige fined for disclosure failures

The US Department of Transportation has levvied a $75,000 fine againsst Prestige Cruise holdings for failure to fully disclose fees and taxes when it advertises its specials that include free air.

Prestige is the parent company of both Oceania and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

The company promptly corrected the matter on their website, and moved to make corrections in print advertising. They are also said to have contacted thousands of TAs about their new, incllusive pricing, which includes government fees and taxes, as well as airline fuel surcharges.

Sounds like they did not research why nobody else advertised that way. I do recall a lot of law suits back in around 2000.

They always advertise "free airfare". The problem is, if you don't want the airfare, they reduce the price of the cruise, so how is this "free"? And when you take the airfare off the "free airfare" deal, you can usually buy airfare cheaper on your own.

So, as I've said on many occasions, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is!
