Carnival Conquest has arrived in Cozumel, and has berthed between Carnival Magic and Freedom of the Seas.

Cozumel is an island in the Caribbean Sea off the eastern coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, opposite Playa del Carmen, and close to the Yucatan Channel. Cozumel is one of the ten municipalities (municipios) of the state of Quintana Roo. Cozumel is a tourist destination for its balnearios, scuba diving, and snorkelling. The main town on the island is San Miguel de Cozumel.

It is also a stop for Caribbean cruises by cruise lines Carnival, Celebrity, Crystal, Disney, Holland America, Norwegian, Princess, Pullmantur and Royal Caribbean.

Cozumel is a flat island based on limestone, resulting in a karst topography. The highest natural point on the island is less than 15 m (49 ft) above sea level. The cenotes are deep water filled sinkholes formed by water percolating through the soft limestone soil during thousands of years. Cozumel's cenotes have very restricted access available only to qualified cave divers with appropriate registration. In the early 1990s, a group of cave explorers here discovered the 5th largest underwater cave in the world. Since the population reached 100,000 people, most of the cavern in town and neighborhood are used for rinse water disposal.

Tourism, diving and charter fishing comprise nearly all sources of incomeThere are more than 300 restaurants on the island[13] and many hotels, some of which run dive operations, have swimming pools, private docks, and multiple dining facilities. Other water activities include para-sailing, kite surfing, and a tourist submarine. There are also two dolphin mariums.

At the cruise ship docks there are several square blocks of stores selling Cuban cigars, jewellery, t-shirts, tequila, and a large variety of inexpensive souvenirs. There are a very large number of restaurants in San Miguel that have a huge variety of different cuisines.

In down town Cozumel are several discothèques, bars, cinemas, stages and restaurants. The main plaza includes a fixed stage where Cozumelenians and tourists celebrate the Sunday evening with a dance into the night.

All food and manufactured supplies are shipped to the island. Water is provided by three different desalinization facilities located on the island.

Current weather in Cozumel (Sep 21, 2012)

The report was made one hour and 7 minutes ago, at 13:47 UTC. The wind was blowing at a speed of 2,6 meters per second (5,8 miles per hour) from east/southeast (110°). The atmospheric pressure was 1013 hPa (29.92 inHg). The relative humidity was 94,2 %. There were scattered clouds at a height of 457 meters (1500 feet) and broken clouds at a height of 7620 meters (25000 feet). The overall visibility was 12,9 kilometres (8.0 miles).

Black clouds are in sight, hoping it keeps nice and dry for Keith & Rita.

I love Cozumel. Sure it is touristy but it is lots of fun. The two highlights are the shopping and the water. The first I found more enjoyable than St. Thomas. I especially love the Mexican blankets. Really cheap but very durable and pretty. We were looking for certain color combinations and fou.d them with the help of every shopkeeper on the block. When one dis not have what we were lookpng for, he would call to the next store and so on and so on. Fun. The government has declared a large area of the nearby ocean as a protected area. That has dramatically increased all the nearby fauna population.
