Oasis Western Carib May 14, 2011- Including Falmouth

Okay, thought I better start getting this report done before I forget everything!

A little background: We are a couple in our late 40's travelling with five more family and friends ranging from mid 50's to mid 80's, total group of seven. We are diamond members with Royal Caribbean and this is our first Caribbean cruise!

We flew from San Francisco to Fort Lauderdale nonstop on Virgin America on Friday the 13th. Our flight left at about 11:30 am and arrived in FLL about 7:30 pm Florida time. Nice flight, I really like VA, seats are comfy, lots of entertainment and food choices and friendly crew. No problems.

We booked the Hampton Inn Cruise port North hotel for our precruise night in FLL, their shuttle picked us up at the airport after about a 10-15 minute wait. It was about a 5-6 minute drive to the hotel. Rooms were nice, clean, and beds were comfy. Our room did not have a tub, just a shower. After checking in and getting the luggage up to the rooms, the hotel shuttle drove us to the Rendevous lounge and restaurant. It's on the waterway, and they had really great food and live music! Would highly recommend. Not to fancy and not to expensive. I had a shrimp Po-boy, hubby had a burger, can't remember what everyone else had but they were all happy with their meals.

Saturday May 14 - Oasis here we come!

We had a restful night at the Hampton, had their free breakfast, I had cereal and fruit as the eggs looked a little questionable. They also had suasage, yogurt, toast, bagels etc...

We had signed up for the shuttle to the pier the night before, and was told to be in the lobby at 10:30 am, they called our group about 10:45 and we loaded up and headed out.

Very short drive to the pier, but once inside the pier area, traffic was pretty backed up, the area for cars and buses to pull in is very small for the amount of people they route thru the port. But once unloaded and inside the terminal, it is very large, and check in was quick and easy.

Once our picture was taken we were seated in the Diamond area to wait for boarding. I think we started to board about 11:45 am. The cabins were not ready until about 1:30 so we headed up to the Solarium. Different dining venues are open for lunch on boarding day and we decided to try the Solarium grill. They have healthy spa like quisine. Our lunch was very good and it is a pleasent area overlooking the solarium pool and spa's.

Grilled chicken and vegetables with brown rice. Very tasty!

We never did get to try the food at the Solarium. Dave never wanted to go there. I think he was afraid of "healthy" food.

Sorry if it takes me a few days to get this review done, still playing catch up from being gone.

The Solarium cafe and pool area was actually one of my favorite spots on the ship. Breakfast there was great, they had the yummiest sauteed mushrooms every morning. ( DH preferred the Windjammer where he could get hashbrowns). I would usually have scrambled eggs, mushrooms, turkey sausage and fruit. After breakfast you could just move out to the lounge chairs around the pool and relax.

    Saturday - continued

After our lunch, we decided to go check out all the cabins.

My Mom and her friend and my sister and hubby had ocean view handicap balcony cabins on deck six next door to each other. ( My Mom requires a scooter to get around as she is in her 80's and my sister was having some hip problems and we were not sure how mobile she was going to be so we thought handicap cabins would be best). Their cabins were on the hump on deck six, and had very large balconies, they were able to open the balcony divider and go back and forth that way. They were very happy with the cabins.
