Stephen, the QM2 is a beautiful graceful ocean liner designed for fast passage through wind and water. The Oasis, on the other hand, has the aerodynamics of a billboard.
You are right Neal and that's why I would rather be on QM2
Funny story. Here outside Dallas a truck was going under a low bridge. The driver thought he was in good shape, according to the sign he had a full six inches of clearance. Nope, he scraped the top of the truck and got wedged under the bridge. The county was trying to charge him for the damage and the obstruction of traffic. A little bit of measurement showed the sign was wrong. Clearance was 9 inches less than the sign indicated. A bit of additional research discovered that the road was recently resurfaced and the new layer of tar was exactly 9 inches thick.
Good thing someone had a tape measure. That's amazing the sign serving the exact purpose of stating clearance was not calculated properly. The resurfacing of the road is just icing to this story.
As a Cunarder, I had to laugh when the Captain said they were down to 6 knots. QM2 is also on the North Atlantic, I know which ship I would rather be on.

Very interesting topic of conversation, since I just finished watching the Captain's blog on oasisoftheseas.com on the Hull design and how it's provided one of the smoothest rides in the world, even in the rough Atlantic.

Sonja, the hull can have a great design, but if the part above the water produces a lot of drag, that can slow the ship down. As the guys pointed out, the sides of the Oasis are not very aerodynamic. (The rear should compensate a bit though.)
Think about car designs. The fastest ones are low to the ground and have as few sharp edges as possible. Oasis is more like a panel truck than a Porsche. For sailing in the Caribbean, that should be just fine.

You see Dan, that's why I am not an engineer. It would be me that messed up and was responsible for all the damage.

Sonja, as much as I am not studding to become an engineer I still find it very interesting. I will stick to computer programming however .
Neal, same situation happened around my way as well, only everything was right, the driver was just an idiot....
Funny part about it was everyone was looking and scratching their heads about how to get the truck out - I laughed to myself as I drove around....why not just deflate the tires???
Oh well, not everyone sees the obvious right?

They wern't worried about the clearance because of the tide and the fact that they were having the ship pass under the bridge at full speed so she would sit lower in the water.
All perfect planning right? Smoke stacks down, full speed to be pulled under, low tide I believe?
So, if one of those were no longer part of the equation, think she would have scrapped? I do.

Tye, did you book your entertainment? You can go online to Royal and book all your show times..
.
Now THAT's cool! We normally don't do shows - interrrupts with our casino time - but I like knowing that if there was an entertainer I really wanted to see, I wouldn't have to stand in the back.

I like this too, on Freedom last year we almost missed out on the ice show, because we almost forgot about getting in the line to get the tickets.
I remember running to the line. Luckily they had the time we liked. Put stress on a vacation, do not like that...

This is all very true. But the reason the Oasis was traveling so slowing through the Atlantic (6 knots) during the storm was not, as everyone wanted to think, because she couldn't handle the storm. They wanted to keep the ride smooth because there are still contractors working with large equipment all over the ship. They don't want anyone getting hurt.

Does anyone know anything about this vehicle? There is some discussion going on at Cruise Log and I would be anxious to hear if any Cruise Line Fans know anything about it
