The first parade on Sunday starts at 11am and should take about 2 hrs to get to Canal St. I think you can cross the parade route on foot without any problem. Not at Canal St where it will be turning toward your hotel and then back toward the river. You might want to go uptown (South) on Loyola toward Poydras St. Two miles is about right on the distance. - NOLA.com has schedules and maps.

WOW - was that a great cruise or what!!!!

I'm back to work today but I wanted to thank packard69 and mok for all the help. We saw the Indymion parade and loved it. We caught that throw we hoped for too!!! That was just the beginning of a wonderful trip.

We got home with 81 photos from the onboard promotion called "photo Frenzy" if I remember correctly. Not bad for 80 bucks huh?? Anyone beat that count??

I'll try to put a review together soon about this cruise.

    Thanks Again!!

Hey! Glad to hear that you and your family enjoyed Endymion. It's definitely the best parade, what was the special throw that you caught? Just curious.

And yes, we took advantage of the "photo frenzy". I usually spend a minimum of $200.00 on pictures, so spending only $79.00 was awesome. But I didn't come home with anywhere near 81 pictures! My husband and son would have killed me if I woud have made them take anymore pictures, we might have taken a total of 15.

I wish I shared your feelings about this cruise, my group and I were pretty disappointed. (We had a group of 50 or so.) I'm looking forward to reading your trip report.

Sorry to hear your group did not get as much from the cruise as we did. It could be the group thing, I don't know. I do know that one of my car clubs does a cruise every year but we never go with them. I just don't want to deal with every one elses schedule all the time - you know.

You must admit our weather was very nice for this cruise. We even got that nice shower rain in Belize which was special to this old mid-west boy that has lived in the desert for 23 years and misses the rain.

And how about those martini specials in the Maharini lounge at night?? The BBQ on the pool deck during sea days was nice as well. I could go on and on but you will have to wait for my report - OK??

Our goal for the NOLA Mardi Gras parades was to get something/anything a little more "tangable" than beads, coins or candy. We caught a softball sized foam soccer ball marked Tucks. I know this thing would sell for less than a buck in a store but it is something we could bring home and display in our game room to remind us of the fun New Orleans gave us.

BTW folks - if you have not been to New Orleans since the rebuild, , , , it's time to go back!!! Sure, many things are still to be done but as far as Mardi Gras and the French Quarter goes - they are open and ready for business!!!

YES CHAR - - - just booked the Carnival Elation for 6/29/09!!

Call me stupid but I booked a cruise I know will be full of kids. I can only hope they are under control. What am I saying - it's not the kids, it's Mom and Dad that need training huh???

Anyway - we are taking the wife's sister and BIL and I see the Elation just finished a remodel so we can hide in the adult area all day.

    Bon Voyage

I can't wait to read your trip report. I have never sailed NCL before but as I prepare for the Epic, I wanted to test the waters with the Spirit since I can drive down easily to New Orleans. Do you have your pictures uploaded on any site? I would love to see the ship and all the activities, etc. How was the food? What room type did you get? Ok, enough questions....I will wait for the review
