    NCL Norwegian Pearl

Norwegian Pearl is due for launch by end of 2006. She will be a sister to Norwegian Jewel but her stats have yet to be released. This thread will be updated as and when the information is forthcoming.

The photo is courtesy of Meyer-Werft where she is under construction.

It appears that things may have got off to a rocky start for NCL Pearl. It is widely reported in the maritime press that a barge carrying a modular section, like those in the above photo, was in collision with another vessel on the River Elbe while on the way to the shipyard. The barge sank and the modular section was damaged. However, this is not a big problem and thus should not delay the launch date as modular sections take about a fortnight to build, so a replacement is not a massive job to complete. Should there be any delays, they will be posted here

The latest construction photograph shows considerable work having been completed since the last one.

Interesting... you are really a whiz at keeping up with this, Ally!

Isn't the Pearl to be followed by the Gem? Any word on when the Gem is scheduled to debut?

Meyer Werft have capacity for 2 liner builds for NCL at any one time, currently Pride of Hawaii is being completed in shed 6 and Pearl in shed 5, I would envisage the next keel to be laid once Hawaii has been floated out and moved to the finishing drydock, which should be sometime in late February/early March, depending on how the schedule is being kept on her. The next ship, after Pearl, is due for launch in May 2007, so a start date in late March/early April 2006 would be feasible. Once Hawaii moves out and the next keel is laid, I shall post up the details
