Norwegian Cruise Lines to Sail out of Tampa

Norwegian Cruise Lines to Sail out of Tampa

Norwegian Cruise Line announced today that its 2011/12 winter/spring deployment includes two new seasonal homeports: Tampa, Florida and Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy, marking the first time Norwegian has initiated voyages from these cities. In addition, for the first time since 1999 the cruise line will visit Israel.

Beginning in October and sailing through May, Tampa will see the Norwegian Star on a regular basis as she sails on seven day cruise vacations to the Caribbean.

What do CruiseLineFans think of Norwegian addition of Tampa, FL as a homeport? Anyone going to take advantage of the new location?

Florida is shaping up to be quite the NCL hub with the Epic sailing out of Miami on several dates throughout the 2011/2012 winter-spring cruise season.

The 11 days on Norwegian Jade, visiting Israel seems like quite a compelling addition, as well.

    Thanks for the info.

Seeing Egypt and Israel on the Jade would be great.

No Tampa for me. But, don't forget about the Sun sailing out of Port Canaveral. That's the ticket for me.

Now if they only sailed out of Houston they would have the Caribbean surrounded with three ports in Florida and one in NOLA.

If I don't know the answer I'm fairly certain I can find it.

Thanks PE....I knew there was another angle to this story...Port Canaveral and the Sun's continued presence.

I did note that it appears NCL is pulling out of the Mexican Riviera according to this press release.

    Any thoughts?

I don't really have any thoughts about the Mexican Riviera. It is not my choice of cruise destination. If I am going to be on the ocean my preference is Caribbean Blue. I do like that I now have the opportunity to try out the Star finally.

A lot of left coasters liked sailing out of LA because it was closer for air travel. And some liked it because they did not have to fly at all much like many New Yorker that strictly sail out of NY.

Now if it wasn't so damn difficult to get to NOLA from Denver I would love to go back on the Spirit.

Maybe things are shaping up for us to try one of the ships out of Tampa or Port Canaveral.

You might like the Norwegian Sun. It is a little bit smaller and more intimate than the rest of the fleet. It is our favorite NCL ship that is still in service,

They did not say during the announcement... Andy Stuart eluded to the fact that there would be overnights in those two "ports"
