I've only been on one NCL cruise. The food was not terribly good in the dining rooms (average cruise food) but the specialty restaurants were excellent.
NCL has made much ado about its newest ships, which is why I am checking out whether to go on the Jewel for a Mediterranian cruise. Can you tell me which ship were you on and what year did you go? Also, when you say "average cruise food", what line are you comparing it to? I cruised on RCCL July 1995, and the cruise food was beyond any expectations!
Thanks.

My reply is based on cruises 5 and 11 years ago.
On a scale of 1-10 (10 being best) about a 4. It was good buffet restaraunt food . . . . alas it was in the dining rooms. Of course this was prior to freestyle dining. IMO, NCL is not known for its' food and that reputation is justified.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "My Country", for an amount of "up to, and including my life." That is honor and courage.
Thanks DocJohnB,
That's what I was afraid of. I won't be recommending NCL to any of my clients until I hear differently from a reliable source. I'm just getting my agency up and running. Sending a valued client on a less than desirable cruise would be doing him a great disservice—not to mention the damage it would do to my reputation.
Thanks for your feedback.

I was on NCL Jewel this August and the food was superb, both in the specialised and standard dining rooms. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever.
My favourites were...
Steamed chicken breast with king prawn mousse stuffing
Fillet mignon of steak
Chocolate fondue
French veal stew
Chilled fruit soups
Lemon tart with fresh cream

We were on the Norwegian Wind when it cruised thru the Alaska Inside Passage. The food was awful! On a score of 1-10 we would give it a 2 only because there was at least pizza you could eat. Everything had Oriental spices in it. We ate in the dining room, the buffets, - even the Mexican food had Oriental spices! Only the pizza tasted like pizza. We've been on a total of 4 different cruiselines, & by far the Wind was the worst. The food wasn't the only problems we had with the Wind. I just hope there's been some changes made since we were on it back in 2003!
