Norwegian Epic’s Red Light Cabins

Norwegian Epic’s Red Light Cabins

Norwegian Cruise Line has announced that some cabins on its much-ballyhooed next ship, the Norwegian Epic, will have a “love setting” for lighting that bathes the room in a red glow.
Studio Cabin in Blue Glow mode!

The specialized lighting option will be available in Epic’s studio cabins: a cluster of 128 interior rooms built around a communal, two-story living area.
The love setting is one of four mood-enhancing lighting options planned for the cabins. The others: blue for calm, white and a rainbow setting. The specialized settings will be controled from a panel on cabin walls.
The studio cabin concept is one of several innovations planned for the massive, 153,000-ton ship, which debuts in June. Aimed at a budget crowd, the cabins are just 100 square feet but boast an ultra-modern design and large, round windows that look out onto the corridor. The exclusive, key card-accessed communal area, called the Living Room, is designed as a place to unwind with lounge seating, a bar, two large TV screens and a dedicated concierge.

Nifty..I have seen these mood settings before at a hotel in Barcelona. I think the hotel was called "chic & basic". Anyway, the toiletries came in a bag with the inscription: "cheap toiletries for you to steal" -

The lighting is an interesting concept.

However, this is one of the things that I don't like about the new, huge floating cities. The way this is laid out it encourages folks to stay inside and re-creates their neighborhood bar atmosphere. What's the use of sailing if you don't get to enjoy the ocean?

The whole concept is to make the ship the destination. I believe this is a change for the bad. But, they do seem to be marketing to a younger crowd.

The ship IS the destination for us, but we like to know that we are on the ocean! When I sit at a bar on the Radiance of the Seas (my favorite ship) I can see the ocean and enjoy the fact that I'm not at home in a bar. (I don't go to bars at home, but you get my point)

I agree that the marketing is for the younger crowd whose lifestyle is different from that of us old far..... fogies.

I must say when I read they were offing "red light" cabins, I did wonder what kind of services were on offer. Not sure they picked the right name of them.
