What's it like

Can anyone who has been on the Norwegian Majesty tell me a bit about it? I see it is an "old' ship 1992 . Has it been refurbished ? Are the cabins smaller than current ships ?, does it feel old ? Tips are $ 12 a day does that indicate superior service ? Will I like it ? Can I dance on it ?Does it have a big dance floor ? it doesn't have anytime dining as far as I can see ?

We sailed on the NCL Majesty to Bermuda, albeit, it was about 8 years ago. The ship is older and smaller. The cabins are VERY small, by todays standards. When we went, they did have Freestyle dining, so I'm sure it is still available. There was a dance club, and although it was fairly large in floor space, it had very low ceilings, so it felt crowded (at least to me).

Don't get me wrong, we had a great time on our cruise (I have never had a bad cruise), and if the price were right and the itinerary was one I wanted, I would go again in a heartbeat.

Not sure why the $12.00 per day gratuities, as I never noticed NCL''s service to be superior to any other cruise line.

Thanks Beverly

I was afraid the cabins would be small. Glad the dancefloor is big though. :0)

The NCL Majesty does have freestyle dining in the Four Seasons and Seven Seas. These are the main dining rooms.
There is also a pasta restaurant and Le Bistro. These often require reservations.
Depending on your cabin category your cabin will be 108 sq. feet to 145 sq. feet. Suites are larger.
We were on the Majesty in 2004 and 2005. It is a nice ship and we thought the staff was excellent.
I do not think that the 12.00 pp/pd is outrageous for a service sharge. Many other cruise lines are in line with this standard.
There are places for dancing on the ship.

Thanks Jim

I don't think 12 is outrageous either just seems higher than others, on the Diamond Princess recently it was 10 I think. I was just curious. I see you have been on it twice , that is a good recommendation.

OK I must be the only person that totally thinks they should sink this ship.

I took this ship last September out of Philly to Bermuda. I thought the service was absolutely terrible. The freestyle dining may work elsewhere but not on this ship. In fact after day 3 we just went to the specialty restaurant because the food and service was so terrible. Beds? Don't even get me started on that. The beds were so small we had to climb over each other to get out of bed. One day I lost my shoe and had to look under the bed - it was a murphy bed with wooden slats. Our backs still ache from that bed. When we even think about that cruise we all cringe. The food on the lido deck mostly catered to Indian food and was mainly vegetarian. Maybe it was just my sailing but I would never go back again.

The Majesty does have a very loyal following. There are also others, like you, that hate everything about it. There were much the same feelings about the Norway.

The Majesty will be leaving the NCL fleet the end of October of this year. It is will undergo a refurbishment and then transfer to Louis Cruises and sail under the name Louis Majesty.

OK so now I know what it is like. And while I would not be quite so harsh as Pat. I really was not impressed with the ship. I did like certain aspects and hated others. I will do a short review for what it would be worth since it will be retiring shortly. I think I will title the review The Good, The Bad and The Ugly , just to be original
