    opinions on 2.0

It has been said that the new 2.0 will be in place on all ships by June 1. Great since I cruise june 15!

It has caused a number of heated discussions on the DS.

My biggest concern was the color coded cards by stateroom cat. I'm in a balcony so I get one. What is the real purpose of the coding. Some say it is just for the benefit of the cruiser. I'm wondering if there is something else.

My other concern was about the balcony rooms and up being able to get reservations for the restaurants 48 hours ahead of time while the lower cat can only do so 24 hours out. From what I've read, ressies can be hard to come by when just about everyone got them at 24 hours out. Will the lower cat. ever get ressies?

Don't get me wrong, I'm in a higher cat. And anyone who wants to donate $22000 in order to upgrade me to the Villa is always welcome to do so.........
I will definitely appreciate the little perks as long as they don't cause problems. I'm sure the fruit delivered daily or the bathrobes in my room won't bother anyone. But I really hope that people aren't treated differently in the public areas because of the card color.

Doesn't that sound familiar...someone being treated differently because of a color. I thought we were trying to get away from all that.

    Hey Lorie

NCL isn't the only line to use card colors. I think all of them have some kind of distinctive color coding.

Can't speak to the ressies since I have never cruised with NCL.

It sounds a little like the class system on the Cunard ships. They have been doing it for a long time.

On several lines there are markings on the cards indicating past passenger levels. I believe that some of them even have different colored cards for different levels.

If does sound like NCL is trying to give some extra perks to those traveling in the more expensive cabins. Other cruise lines do that as well.

There sure do, and on Celebritiy's new Solstice, there is a special category of suites, dubbed 'Aqua Class,' that really harkens back to the old days of sailing, when there was First Class and Steerage.

There's a separate thread about it, here: http://www.cruiselinefans.com/celebr...qua-class.html (Solstice's Aqua Class)

Yep, Blizzard is correct ...Celebrity uses different color cards to denote suite passengers and also past passenger level in the Captain's Club. Under age kids have a different color card, too, so they can't try to fool the bartenders!

If you want to read all about it, just go to that thread, but here ia an excerpt:

A unique class of veranda staterooms called AquaClass, an oceanside retreat created for guests who are most passionate about pampering and "getting away from it all."

Simplicity and comfort are evident throughout the room, from the bathroom's fog-free mirror and tall jetted bodywash shower, to the robust pillow menu. Aroma scent selections tied to specific vacation goals (relax, revive, re-energize, etc.) provide guests with a multi-sensory experience, while lavish AquaClass toiletries and refreshing daily teas, juices and bottled water round out the offering.

AquaClass will comprise 130 of the ship's 1,425 staterooms, each double-occupancy only, creating the perfect grown-up getaway. Guests in AquaClass will receive unlimited access to Celebrity Solstice’s new AquaSpa relaxation room on the same deck, and the Persian Garden, an exotic aromatherapy and steam room.

    And one more . . .

. . . Celebrity plans an exclusive dining room on its next ship, the Celebrity Solstice. The 130-seat eatery, dubbed Blu, will be the private domain of passengers in AquaClass, an exclusive new category of cabins aimed at spa lovers

So, I think that what NCL is doing is just one more expression of the same thing - giving those who "pay the big bucks" something to really pay for~

On RCL those in suites and past passengers at the Diamond and Diamond Plus levels have access to Concierge Lounge on those ships that have them. It have a number of amenities including complementary cocktails every evening.
