    Okay here goes.

Remember to pack a power strip. There is only one outlet in the cabin not counting the razor outlet in the bathroom. Yes, you will be able to charge your cell phone and anything that may need recharging. The only thing I need to recharge, besides myself, is my iPod.

Formal dress is an option that some take advantage of and other do not. My wife and I are about 50/50 on when we take formal wear with us. For us it depends on who we are sailing with and what the itinerary is. If we are doing a lot of diving we usually will be somewhat tired so we forgo the formal wear.

I'm not a "foodie" but I studied cooking for a few years with thought of becoming a chef. The food aboard NCL will not be what you would consider 5 star. But, it is not Applebees or TGIFridays either. We find the food very tasty with a lot of creativity in setting the menus. The only thing I have found to complain about the food is the burgers. You will not be able to get a burger anything less than well done. Which is weird because you can get a steak medium rare.

    Keep 'em coming.

If I don't know the answer I'm fairly certain I can find it.

I'm a bit of a foodie too (OK, I am maybe even a food snob sometimes) but I figure a cruiseship's food should be absolutely fantastic. I set the bar really high. There have only been a few times when I didn't think a meal was fantastic.

In general, I think the food is best in the specialty restaurants and is worth spending a few dollars more for. But having said that, I have had some out of this world good meals in main dining rooms on several cruise lines.

I see your thread is posted under NCL. Which ship will you be on? We sailed on the Pride of Aloha in Hawaii and all the food was very good, but the Italian restaurant (forgot the name of it) was especially memorable. It was as good as any fine dining you'd find in a big city. The best food I ever had on a ship was on Regent's Voyager in the Mediterranean, where the chefs were trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. Now THAT was nice!

The electricity in your cabin will be 110V.

Yes, you will want to try the French restaurant aboard NCL ships. Le Bistro was the first alternate dining option on any mass market cruise line. It was started on The Norway back in the mid 80's. The menu had not really changed until very recently. With Steakhouses being very prevalent on the newer NCL ships Le Bistro have modified their menu to reflect more of a French ideal of dining. I would suggest the Chateaubriand. We had it on our last cruise to celebrate our anniversary and it was wonderful

We were on the Dawn in August and October and went to LeBistro a few times.

We really loved the short rib and filet. It was excellent.

    Enjoy your cruise.

I have never been on a cruise out of LA before so I cannot answer.

However, when we have disembarked in Boston (2 times) and NYC (3 times) we were off and in our car at the pier by 9:30am everytime.

Hopefully someone can answer regarding the situation at LAX.
    Upcoming cruises:

    NCL Star 2-19-12
