Be sure to take the train from Vos up into the mountains in Norway-absolutely stunning and most ships offer the excursion. The Palaces in St. Petersburg are also absolutely stunning and as far as I am concerned put Versailles to shame. Domabache Palace, on the Bosphorus, is probably the only other Palace that can hold up a light to Peterhof. Two years ago I achieved a life-long dream of going to every palace still standing in the world. Most of the palaces in the Baltic region (outside of Russia) are rather drab affairs compared to a. the Russian Palaces,b. The German palaces of Ludwig II, and c. the Sultan's palaces in Istanbul. Of course, Ducky, you understand that the Grand Palace in Bangkok is just too special to be included in any list of Palaces!!!

I just got back from our Baltic cruise and for me, the whole experience was unexpected. We took all ship tours and were pleased with all except maybe Oslo, which was too short for us. We also had to be back early for a 2 pm sailaway, just not enough time!
General highlights were driving through the cities and countrysides at every port we visited. I loved checking out the arcitecture in all the cities, and the people, and the traffic, and the palaces, and the churches, and the parks, and the town squares, etc, etc, etc!
A cruise not to be missed, whatever your interests are you will find things that are a "must see" for you!
