    Claiming a VAT

Has anyone claimed a VAT after a European cruise? Was it worth the paper work?

Hi, Welcome to CLF. I've claimed one after a land vacation in London in 1994. I guess it depends on how much the refund is. The paper work as I recall was not much, and we got our check in the mail within a reasonable timeframe, 2 weeks if I recall correctly.

VAT is an abbreviation for 'Value Added Tax'. We call it simply, 'Sales Tax' here in the United States.
In some Caribbean islands, you'll find VAT, Barbados, Dominica, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago. Guyana is set to implement it in the begining of 2007.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) encouraged Caribbean countries to implement VAT to raise revenues and simplify the tax structure.
VAT is in place in excess of 120 countries.
