I bleed BLUE and GOLD...
We are seriously looking at cruising to or from Istanbul. My DH wants to go to a town on the northern Turkish coast, Trazbon(?), but only the super luxury lines go there, and I'm NOT footing the bill!
I have looked at Celebrity and Windstar so far, and I still want to look at HAL and Oceania. And any other line that goes to Istanbul and will spend more than 8 hours.

On hiatus from cruising, but still very interested!!!
We will be taking two of our four children to Europe on a cruise either late May or early June 2007 as HS graduation gifts to them. So far, nothing is firm, but we want to take a cruise that enables us to visit as many of the major art museums in Europe as possible during our shore excursions, with a pre or post cruise stay in Rome or Florence or Venice. Both daughters plan pursuing different art degrees in college: the older in painting, the younger in art history.
If anyone has suggestions on one cruise over another, I'm all for it! It's been a mind-boggling research project for me since the itineraries were released recently.
Cheers~
Nicki

Update from my post of April 21st:
We booked a cruise on the MV Discovery, which will sail in and out of Istanbul in October 2007. It will also go to Trabzon, and some other neat ports all around the Black Sea.
This ship used to be the Island Princess, one of the 2 original Love Boats, and Blizzard's honeymoon ship! It's small enough to go places other cruise ships can't get to, but big enough to find things to do when we are at sea.
I'm currently reading Noah's flood : the new scientific discoveries about the event that changed history, which explains how the Noah's Flood story could be based on fact, based on waters rising in the Black Sea thousands of years ago. There was a special about this on the National Geographic channel about this as well. More info here:

I found the deck plans for the MV Discovery and compared them to the old deck plans of the Island Princess. They did make a number of changes. I also discovered an error in the way they are displayed on the site. They have a deck backward. The Carrosal lounge is in the bow, not the stern.

Thanks, Blizzard!!!! Of all the things, to misplace - a bar! Not fair for the inebriated!
I did notice that the gallery on the Promenade deck has been replaced with an internet cafe. I just hope the satellite connection works better than the one we had on the Danube.
I noticed this ship also made provisions for single travelers. You probably would not remember if that was true back when it was the Island Princess.

We have booked a 14-day E. Med cruise on Celebrity's Millenium, from Barcelona to Venice.
McCruiser: this cruise includes an overnight stay in Istanbul!! I was stationed in Turkey while in the USAF but DW could not be with me, so she is anxious to see a bit of what I experienced.
Cruise dates are Nov 4-18, 2007!

THanks for the tip Bill! I had looked at a similar itinerary, and I may have even shown it to my husband, since I knew he likes balconies. But he really wanted to see Trabzon,( or Trezbizon,) on Turkey's north coast, and when I found a cruise that goes there, that was all he needed to hear.
