I went to New York twice for one reason: My older sister lived there for three years to do her residency after medical school. Everyone else wanted to see the Metropolitan Museum of Art, so we went there both times. I personally have no interest in most of what you can see there because it is not my type of museum, but that is just me. If you like art museums, you will spend a long time at that one because of its size.
I went to the Statue of Liberty when its interior was closed fcr security reasons (because of the 9/11 attacks a few months earlier), but heard later it reopened and visitor can go up to the crown again. Not sure if that is true. There is an information panel that explains why it is green. I wish I Had time to read it.
You can't go to the SOL without also ferrying over to Ellis Island, where immigrants become U.S. citizens. You can see the big room where that happens when you go in the building on that island. I can't remember if they still do it there or not.
Being born and raised in the Midwest, I naturally have to include the beach on the to-do list.
EDIT: The link did not work for me either. "The page you are looking for is not here." Hmmm.
