I would be remiss if I didn't post a separate thread on Mazatlan Frank.
In the months leading up to our recent cruise on Mercury, I read many fine things about Frank, but, being a bit of a cynic thought I would reserve judgement until I had actually met him. He made many promises about himself and his company.
Well, I am here to tell you he understates his worth. What a gentleman. We were a group of about 35 who pre-booked (via the internet) an all day tour with him. He took us on our word and no prepayment was asked for. He told Bob (a member of the group who made the arrangements) when and where he would meet us. He promised us an air-conditioned bus for the day and a fantastic view of "his" Mazatlan. He delivered on all counts.
When we arrived at the designated meeting place, he was there with his smile and Buenos Diaz'. We were guided to that air-conditioned bus. Due to a last minute illness and an injury, four of our group opted out at the last moment. No matter.
We started our tour and discovered not only what the "real" Mexico and Mazatlan were all about, but also just how knowledgeable and proud Frank was of his heritage and country.
Over the years we have taken many tours where language is a barrier. Not so with Frank. His knowledge of English is wonderful. When he spoke to us there was just a delightful hint of his Spanish heritage. This made for a most pleasant and understanding tour. (Part of his extensive resume is the fact that he worked for the Canadian consulate for a few years).
Although I had only corresponded with him a couple of times via the boards, he recognized my 'handle' and made the special effort of acknowledging me personally.
Frank is humorous, knowledgeable and appears to take a genuine delight in showing off his home to us tourists.
After a wonderful day touring the countryside around Mazatlan, we arrived back in town and a quick tour of the tourist area and Mazatlan's cliff divers. We were then safely delivered back to the port in time to get back aboard the ship prior to departure.
If you are planning to visit Mazatlan in the future you should make contact with Frank via his website at http://www.mazatlan-frank.com and make arrangements for this superb guide to show you his Mexico. You will not be sorry. And, if you do, do so early. Frank did tell us that while he tries to accompany as many requests as possible, it often comes down to who contacts him earliest for any given day. Once committed, he does not "overbook".
We used Mazatlan Frank the week before you did...........i couldn't agree with you more.........as a result of his wonderful tour for our group.......Mazatlan was a highlight of the cruise...........and because of his love of Mazatlan.........we are planning to go back.
I too highly recommend.........Mazatlan Frank if you are ever in Mazatlan and need a professional tour.

Hanna,
This was an approximately 7 hour tour. Briefly we stopped along the way to watch local workers at their trade, including a brickmaker, a tile maker, bread factory, furniture factory and a few others. We stopped at two villages and visited their churches and squares. Lunch was included in one of the villages that included typical Mexican fare and some of the best banana creme pie I've enjoyed. As stated in my OP we also enjoyed some of the Mazatlan city highlights. The drive through the countryside was enhanced by Frank's discussions.
Not sure how much dinero it cost , but it was $45 per person. And, worth every penny.
