2 beers please - very cold

Assuming you like Negra Modela. You could also ask for dos Pacificas, or dos of whatever your favorite Mexican beer is!

I have a funny story about thinking you know a little Mexican and getting it wrong!

I took three years of Spanish in high school, and the first time I went to Mexico I was anxious to practice it on someone other than my teacher. I walked up to a cute little Mexican boy, he looked like he was about ten years old. I knelt down in front of him and in my best Spanish I said "Hello, little boy, what is your name?".

He stared at me with a funny look on his face...just staring...

I got back to my room and flipped through the Spanish/English dictionary to see if maybe I got a word wrong. It turns out what I actually said to the boy was "Hello, little boy...what is my name?" No wonder I got the blank stare. He was probably thinking....lady, I have no idea!!

Talking

Funny Story, THL!!! Feel certain I've done that too from time to time....

There are times when I hear others saying things in Spanish and I just wonder if they have a clue of what they've really said!

I have heard people just put "o" at the end of words and "el" in front of them, to make it sound Spanish. Like "I want to buy an el drinko for my el friendo". If they only knew how silly they sounded!!

Since everyone wants to know how to order beer, I think this next phrase would also be helpful....

Donde esta el bano? (where it the bathroom?)

Cuanto costa este? ( How much does this cost?)

Necesito un taxi por favor. (I need a taxi please)

Also please is: Por favor
and thank you is: Gracias

Beth

How do you say "I'm sorry, my husband didn't really mean to say that"...I think that's a phrase I could use now and then.

In Tahiti we both learned to say hello in Tahitian, which is Iorana and it sounds like "Your Honor" only without the r...more like Your Onna...but he never did get it right. He went around saying "You Wanna" to people. Which got us some strange looks!
